I think both presentation and communication skills is very important.
For example, I used to comment on prospectus content.
Everything in the prospectus has to be verifiable factual.
So when I started writing marketing materials for my education center, this is something
that I didn't know, but I just put in everything factual, which is not attractive.
So then I started looking at what other centers did and how they word their marketing materials.
When I speak to parents and business partners, it's actually two different tones.
For parents, each parent have their own thoughts about how to groom their kids.
So when you market your program to parents, you have to keep listening to their responses,
look at their faces, try to understand what they're looking for for their children, and
you adjust your script accordingly.
For business partners, we don't tell them everything right.
We try to understand what they want to look for in this cooperation, what they need from
us, and of course what we want from them in return.
So that does require a lot of listening and persuasion, and that's also a very important
skill.
Good presentation skills and communication skills, I think the first thing is that you
need to have good language skills.
English has always been very important since my first job at investment banking.
It's actually a prerequisite to get into banking, and even if you don't know a matter
of any, you can actually do something that's non-Chinese focused.
But even out of banking, we started the education center in Chengxiawan.
We thought that the focus would be on Chinese, but fortunately we wrote all the materials
either in English or bilingual.
We first delivered the course in Cantonese, but then we had a lot of requests from parents
saying, how can you deliver this full in English?
So I think language learning doesn't just stop after you're done with school.
I think it's even more important when you're on a job that you have to be able to communicate
in even an education center in a district which you might not have thought of using English.
We're still using it.
