English pronunciation would be incomplete without the schwa, and I found my students
had difficulties articulating this unstressed vowel sound. That's why I wanted to make
this learning object and submit it to style.
Accurate use of schwa in British English is the composition of three objects – two
videos and one web page. In the videos I introduce how to pronounce the schwa within polysyllabic
words and short simple sentences. The videos are combined with a learning space called
the schwa padlet, where students can upload their recordings of the words in the video
and the teacher can write feedback. This resource can be used by teachers who are introducing
the concept of schwa, or those who want to independently train their pronunciation.
